The bad news regarding Potchfest10

From Jake of Potchfest fame:

I'm sorry to let all of you know that the town has shut the festival down. We will try and find a way to hold a new event sometime in the near future. When we first set out to find a place to hold the festival, we went to the town, and they showed no interest at all, they would never get back to us, and when they would talk to us they were nothing but rude. we realized they would never let us hold it in one of the parks, or on the green or anything of that sort, so we went to Robb's Farm. Robb knew just how special this festival would be, he knew it would be safe, and he knew it would be a great thing for the town. We did the festival last year, and it was an amazing experience, anyone who was there knows how good our intentions were, and there was no trouble what so ever. the town didnt even realize it happened because nothing went wrong, and everyone was on their best behavior. Then Robb gets a call from the town today, 4 days before the festival, saying they are shutting us down. I cant explain how disappointed we are, we all put so much work into this event, and i will be losing over $500 because of this. The only reason it was shut down is because we used the word "Festival", and no other reason at all. PotchFest was brought to the police's attention because a random citizen didnt like the idea that it was happening, and turned a flyer into the police. This person had nothing to do with the festival, and the festival would not effect them in anyway, but they turned us in anyways. I feel this is the attitude of many people in this town, and thats why nothing interesting ever happens here. This was a free festival, we were going to accept donations, and we were even trying to get more familys to show up, we tryed all we could to show that this was going to be a good clean festival, Whole Foods was even helping us out. We did not deserve to get shut down, and Robb's Farm doesnt deserve this either. Robb's Farm donates their baseball field to Glastonbury Little League for free, and holds many free events, if you know Robb then you know how much he does for this town, and how much he truly cares about people, and the town called him out, called him irresponsible, insulted him in many others ways; even after all he has done for them. I just wanted to let everyone know exactly what happened, im sorry if that was alot to read, but POTCHFEST IS NOT DONE! we are going to do all we can to figure out how we can fit regulations, and make a musical event happen in the near future with most of the same bands. of course now we will never be able to call it Potch'Fest' again, but we will make something happen. THANKS VERY MUCH FOR ALL OF YOU WHO WERE GOING TO ATTEND, AND IM VERY SORRY! - jake

Listen to this song: Charissa by A.M. Taxi

A.M Taxi's new album 'We Don't Stand A Chance' rocks socks. Here's my favorite track. A.M. Taxi features Adam Krier of Lucky Boys Confusion fame (and of being Dan Simonich's cousin fame). Buy the album on iTunes or AmazonMP3.

iPhone Camera Roll Black Screen Issue

Update: I went to the Apple Store and painlessly replaced my phone (due to the yellow bar issue). I explained this black screen issue as well, and they said it was an OS problem and that a clean restore would fix the problem.

The Camera Roll app on my iPhone 4 has been acting fucky. This is how it currently looks:

When I click in the black abyss, I get to the picture whose thumbnail should be there. What's also weird, is here is the view from the top level 'Albums':

The black space even appears in that thumbnail preview of the camera roll. What the heck? I've restored my iPhone, force quit the Photos app, and re-synced my photos. Nothing has helped. I've seen similar issues some old like here and here, but other recent ones like here.

I'm going to head to the Apple store anyway to have them deal with the yellow band at the bottom of my screen, so I might as well bring this up too. Has anyone figured out how to fix this?

The King is Dead, and he named Dave Coffin his successor.

My first encounter with The King is Dead was when Elvis died #toosoon. Not true, but I'll tell you what is true: Dave Coffin's new album 'The King is Dead' is awesome. The king actually heard it right before he died, and he died a happy man.

Dave is a buddy ol' pal and he knows I like the album, so why am I writing this? Well he told me to. But despite this testimony being given under duress, I'm going to stand by it.

Dave put together a few great musicians to form his band. Chuck Anastasiou shreds it up on guitar (check out his own stuff, entited Animatronique). Dave Jamrog lays down the drums (check out his site and his Snappy Tracks studio here). Whenever Dave (Coffin) would play me demo tracks, most of my comments were lauding the drums. Dave (Jamrog) kills it. Kevin O'Brien mans the bass. Not sure if he has a website, but he does have an awesome name.

The King is Dead also features many local and not as local artists such as Al Kooper (of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Zombies, Blood, Sweat & Tears, and Bob Dylan fame), Duke Levine, Ryan Zoidis (of Rustic Overtones, Soulive, and Lettuce), Jason Crigler, Kerry Muzzey, and more.

A ton of time and effort and love was put into The King is Dead, and it shows. Dave is quickly establishing himself in both the Boston folk scene and also the Boston awesome scene (parts of those scenes overlap). You better go see Dave at a show, buy his stuff, get an autograph, or whatever because this album is so good it might go to his head soon. I know we want to see Dave form a drug habit and go all Johnny Cash and have a Behind the Music about himself, I'm just saying get this album before all that.

So, the king is dead. Get over it, let's not cry over spilled milk. Let's weep tears of joy over Dave Coffin's latest album. It's that good.

Nimbit (www.nimbit.com), the music industry's leading Direct-to-Fan platform, and JSR Merchandising (www.jsrdirect.com), a leader in entertainment retail and tour merchandising, announced a technology and co-marketing agreement.

This new partnership creates a complete, end-to-end merchandising and fan engagement offering for a broad range of artists at the national level. "By integrating Nimbit's direct-to-fan suite of tools, we can now create compelling music and merch promotions, bundling both physical and digital products for sale on any artist storefront or social network," says Wes Bockley, JSR Founder. "The Nimbit platform impressed us right away with the way it generates fan engagement and provides multiple ways to monetize that interest across different sites and at shows."

"In the past, major artists relied on their label for nearly everything -- from marketing to manufacturing, distribution, and tour services. Now they can turn to JSR and Nimbit for a more profitable, and easily managed independent solution," explains Nimbit CEO, Bob Cramer. "By combining JSR's massive capacity for manufacturing and retail/tour merchandising, alongside Nimbit's complete direct-to-fan management platform, we now offer the most comprehensive solution to nationally touring artists."

The partnership also opens up new opportunities for emerging acts that previously didn't have access to such resources. Artists that start to bubble up regionally will be able to opt into tour merchandising arrangements with JSR, getting the benefit of a turnkey fulfillment and manufacturing service along with powerful direct-to-fan marketing and commerce tools -- all from a single Nimbit account.

crazy, i had no idea there was a home team advantage written into the rules of hockey

Lastly, there exist some advantages for the home team which are actually written into the rules of the game. In ice hockey, during stoppages of play, the home team is allowed to make player substitutions after the visiting team, allowing them to obtain favorable player matchups. This rule makes the home team designation important even in tournament games played on neutral ice. Also, when lining up for each faceoff, the away team's centre must place his stick on the ice before the centre of the home team. This gives the home team's centre the ability to time the faceoff better and gives him greater odds of winning the faceoff.
